History of the Old Post:
|
"In 1731, the French government established a military post (or Poste) along the Wabash River; a fort was completed in 1732. Quebec-born Francois-Maire Bissot, who inherited the title Sieur de Vincennes from his father, founded the fort, and the French and Native Americans who settled in this area used it as a trading and military post. Over two and one-half centuries later, Vincennes (the oldest city in Indiana) is still affectionately known as the Old Post."
